The Artisanal and related manufacturers association (AFADHYA) announced the officialization of the National Artisan Ice Cream Day for August 31. With this initiative, the organization celebrates a day to honor the authentic artisanal production and reaffirms its role as a reference, promoting the values that define the product.
The date was established in reference to the fact that on August 31, 1972 the founding act of the Association was signed. “For years, Afadhya has been promoting this celebration and We are very proud that our partners and fans of the Argentine artisanal ice cream are at last a date to honor it “, its president Maximiliano Maccarrone argued.
He added: “This new event is a collective dream that comes true and marks a before and after for local gastronomy.”
A story that began 53 years ago
On August 31, 1972, a group of manufacturers met for the first time in Buenos Aires, to Discuss common problems in the sector. “Argentine artisanal ice cream is today synonymous with excellent quality, prepared with selected raw materials and processes that respect tradition. In each new flavor, we seek to create combinations that transmit the pride of national identity,” said the president.

According to the latest market research, the average per capita consumption of Argentines is 7.3 kg, with 10 kg peaks in high season. The last study by AFADHYA together with the Consultant d’Alessio Irolalso showed that:
- 9 out of 10 Argentines consume artisanal ice cream at any season of the year.
- 60% consider it a national gastronomic emblem, at the level of roast and wine.
- Sweet won and chocolate with almonds are the undisputed favorite flavors.
In this latest market research conducted in 2023, the Top 10 of the flavors chosen by the Argentines was known:

From the Association, its president said: “Our mission is to support ice cream shops that are part of the association in all aspects, from business management to the continuous improvement of product quality.”
