Mette-Marit’s son Marius Borg Høiby faces serious allegations. Now the start date for the procedure against him has been determined.
Marius Borg Høiby (28) must answer in court from the beginning of February 2026. “The period from February 3 to March 13th was reserved in the Oslo district court. That fits perfectly and, in our opinion, is enough time in consultation with us,” said Hoiby’s lawyer Ellen Holager Andenæs. Accordingly, 24 days of negotiations are scheduled.
“There is also time for us to provide our own witnesses and evidence if the public prosecutor has not taken into account everything we need to clarify the case,” said Andenæs. One will come back to it as soon as it is clear what is still needed, says Anddenæs.
Allegations and possible maximum sentence
The eldest son of Norway’s crown princess Mette-Marit (52) is charged with the Oslo public prosecutor’s office in 32 points. This includes four alleged rape of different women. “The fact that Marius Borg Høiby is part of the royal family must of course not lead to being treated milder or stricter than others who have committed similar acts,” explained prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø, according to the public service broadcast NRK.
A guilty verdict could mean a maximum penalty of up to ten years for Høiby. An accusations against Høiby, especially the allegations of rape, rejected one of his lawyers to NRK in June.
Marius Borg Høiby comes from a previous relationship between Mette-Marit. Although he belongs to the royal family, he does not play an official role in the Norwegian royal family. Mette-Marit has been married to Crown Prince Haakon (52) since 2001, together they have two children: Princess Ingrid Alexandra (21) and Prince Sverre Magnus (19).
