Shortly before his 95th birthday, Mario Adorf surprises in a new interview with statements about his professional future and death.
He was “the big Bellheim”, performed in Fassbinder’s “Lola”, “Momo” and “The Blechtrum”. On September 8th, the great German Mime Mario Adorf (94) turns 95. In an interview with the “Hörzu”, Adorf now looked back on his moving life – and also shared surprising thoughts on death.
Mario Adorf “would have liked to let go”
When asked how he felt with his almost 95 years, Adorf replied that he “would not have expected to grow so old”. At the same time, he was completely “in pure” and “did not have the feeling that there was still a lot to work up”.
However, Adorf does not look forward to a return to the camera. “I am without any ambition in this direction – and without any hope,” he says. Nor was he sure “whether I can still do it physically”.
Adorf was unable to participate in the awarding of the German television award last autumn due to illness. And even in the new “Hörzu” interview, he surprises with thoughtful words to death. “The experience I had this year was very negative,” he says when asked whether he is still “not afraid of dying”. And further: “There was a point where I thought: ‘That is now.’ I would have liked to let go. “
Doesn’t see yourself as a world star
What exactly Adorf alludes to remains unclear in the interview statements. The great actor has not stood in front of the camera in recent years. With his wife Monique Faye he lives in Saint-Tropez on the French Mediterranean coast.
Despite his more than 200 film roles in the course of his over 60 years of career, the Adorf, which is considered to be grounded, does not see himself as a world star, according to his own statement. “Weltstars come solely from Hollywood,” he once said when asked how he sees himself.
