Rob Reiner talked about the participation of Sir Eston John and Sir Paul McCartney in the sequel of This is Spinal Tap
In a new interview with the Rolling Stone Podcast Music Now, Reiner talked about how the two musical giants became involved in the most anticipated rock movie ‘N’ Roll of the year/decade/century.
“I contacted Paul McCartney, contacted Elton John, and they said yes right away,”Reiner tells Brian Hiatt from Rolling Stone. “They did not hesitate at all.”
“The interesting thing about Paul’s scene [McCartney] It is that it is based on something that really happened, “Reiner reveals.” There is a test complex in the valley with a lot of trial rooms and scenarios where the bands are prepared for their concerts, and Spinal Tap was preparing for one of its concerts. Paul McCartney was in another room, rehearsing, and one day he entered by chance while Spinal Tap was rehearsing and said: ‘They touch a song, guys!’ I think they played start me up [de The Folksmen]… So [en la película] He is in New Orleans and goes through there because he learns that they are rehearsing. “
“They have always said that he is the friendliest person who has existed in rock.”Reiner adds, “and there is no doubt that he is. He is a good, decent person and with his feet on the ground; it is impossible not to like him. And that’s why I love that in the film, David St. Hubbins destroys it; it is perfect. But it is the sweetest type in the world.”

Reiner also praised Elton John for his cameo in the movie.
“Elton makes it very easy,” he says. “I had only seen it once, I didn’t know him very well, and it was also great. These boys love playing, they love music and give themselves fully.” “I think the band felt honest, obviously, to have the presence of these boys, two gentlemen, two gentlemen, you know, serve Paul and Sir Elton … They were delighted”adds the director. “But, ultimately, they are just boys playing, you know?”
