Arthur Brauss is dead. The former “Großstadtrevier” favorite died peacefully at home in Munich at the age of 89.

Arthur Brauss (1936-2025) died at the age of 89. The actor, who was primarily famous for his role as police chief Richard Block in the popular evening crime series “Großstadtrevier” (since 1986, the first), died in his Munich apartment on Saturday. . In the meantime, his wife Marie Pocolin-Brauss has also confirmed the sad news. “He fell asleep very peacefully. This is my only comfort: that he didn’t have to torture himself” ,.



From the sports face to the actor

Brauss’ life path was anything but straightforward. In 1954 he won the title as a German youth champion in the pole vault at 3.60 meters. But instead of a sports career, the native of Augsburg was drawn into the wide world after a commercial apprenticeship in a construction machine company. With a scholarship in the United States, he studied mathematics and economics – and discovered his true passion: acting.

In 1963 Brauss gave his cinema debut in “Delay in Marienborn”. He later played in international productions, including “Der Zug” alongside Jeanne Moreau and Burt Lancaster and in 1972 in Wim Wenders’ Film “The Fear of the goalkeeper at the penalty”.


Police officer Richard Block made him famous

His best-known role, however, was that of the police officer Richard Block in the ARD “Grand City Tree”. This figure made Brauss a crowd favorite and conquered the German living room in the storm. In total, he participated in more than 100 productions at home and abroad – including in classics such as “crime scene”, “Der Alte”, “Derrick”, “Police Call 110”, “The Black Forest Clinic” or “Commissario Laurenti”.

One of his last TV appearances was in the series “Murder in the north” in 2014. In recent years, Brauss has lived with his wife in the Schwabing district of Munich.
