After eleven years, the band Babyshambles goes on tour again. Singer Pete Doherty admits that there are reservations and talks about his addiction problems.
The British band Babyshambles has announced a reunion tour. The musicians around front man Pete Doherty will go on tour for the first time in eleven years. The occasion is the 20th anniversary of her debut album “Down In Albion”. The quartet announced ten concerts in Great Britain on Instagram for November and December. The Babyshambles initially left it open whether it would continue afterwards.
Reunion has been indicated for a long time
A comeback had been indicated for some time. “It was always an issue, there was always the desire to play these songs again,” said Doherty (46) to the British music magazine “NME”. “But the central point was ultimately the addiction – and the risk that Mick and I would have an unhealthy influence on each other.”
Singer Doherty and guitarist Mick Whitnall had to struggle with drug problems in the past. “In the meantime it has been four or five years since we stopped tough stuff,” emphasized Doherty now. “So we think that we may be ready to take a look at civilized society again and carefully dancing around each other – and finding out whether the whole thing is real and whether it is true.”
Guitarist Walden died in June
Babyshambles founded Doherty after the Libertines. The band published three albums. However, her career was accompanied by headlines about Doherty’s drug excesses and the relationship with his then girlfriend, supermodel Kate Moss. Babyshambles guitarist and founding member Patrick Walden, who was also part of the reunion, died last June at the age of 46.
