The “things are ..!” Moderator Panagiota Petridou reveals in an interview how she succeeds in being a mother and combining her career.

Panagiota Petridou (46) presents the new episodes of the assessment show “There are things ..!” (from September 1st at 9:15 p.m. at RTLZWEI and seven days in advance). In an interview with the news agency Spot on News, the moderator reveals which celebrity she particularly impressed when guessing prices unusual objects and services and with whom she would form a good candidate duo. Petridou also tells how she combines child and career, what life as a mother brings with it in public and what her first vacation was without a child.

You have taken over the format of Oliver Pocher. How was it for you to succeed you?

Panagiota Petridou: With us in the industry, it is common for moderators to change and the show remains. It doesn’t really matter who did it beforehand, because you bring your own moderation style into it. And it is not the first show in which I take a successor.

How would you describe yourself as a moderator and why fits “there are things ..!” to them?

Petridou: “There are things ..!” Fits me so well because of course it also has something to do with selling and numbers. You can compare yourself well, or you need a certain knowledge and sensitivity as far as you pay and appreciate. My good general knowledge also helps to know one or the other. If you are pretty broad, you can score really well. And that’s why things fit ..! To me like the fist on the eye – also because there are no fixed moderations. You can improvise a lot and lead completely freely through the shipment without there being any specifications.

Was there during the filming of “There are things ..!” An object or a moment that really surprised you? And who impressed them from the celebrities?

Petridou: Johann Lafer, for example, impressed me. He was incredibly ambitious, knew an incredible amount and immediately created a ranking. When all the cards were there, he said directly: “That, that and that’s more expensive than that.” That impressed me very much – especially how he plague through the show with a real marching step.

Who would you give a perfect candidate duo for the show?

Petridou: A really good candidate duo would be with Özcan Cosar, for example – with him I also get on very well privately. But Paul Janke was also very strong. With him I could also imagine working well on the show.

With “Offer Rostlaube, looking for a dream car” they were able to combine their car passion and TV for years. Do you lack the show?

Petridou: At the beginning I didn’t lack the show because we turned all year round – from Monday to Friday, again and again, week after week. Of course I was also glad not to keep going from garage to garage. But after a year I have thought about it many times. Especially when I drove through the cities in which I shot, I had real nostalgia moments. Or when I saw a repetition on TV, I thought: “Oh man, that was a fun day” or “It was a real challenge.” Then the old cases came up again. And I have never driven as old cars again since then – so real rattling boxes.

How do cars play a role in their life today?

Petridou: Cars still play a role because I also work actively in the dealership. And that’s why the relevance of the cars never decreased for me. I have been a car seller for 21 years and never left the job despite my TV career.

They have been a mother since 2022 and, according to Instagram, were recently on vacation without a child for the first time. How was experience for you?

Petridou: It was very exhausting before departure. What if the child gets sick, injures himself and I am not there? I mean, I looked, over 20 machines fly back to my city a day, but I still had great difficulty to let go beforehand. After two days, the letting go was totally worth it: I was able to sleep twice a day, had peace and quiet at night and did not have to look all the time during the day. That was incredibly good because I was able to sort myself up and also planned a new daily structure. The vacation not only helped me personally, but also for my job – I completely restructured myself when I came back.

They also report on Instagram that as a mother, they often come across the old role model. How do you try to break and change it?

Petridou: Yes, the old role model of the woman will probably always be an issue. I don’t try to break through something, but I am already someone who can answer confidently – even with a child and cone. For example, I am asked more often on the red carpet: “Where is your child?” And then I think: hm, strange – there are also many fathers here. Are they actually asked where their children are? I break through this by simply showing that a woman can be a mother and can work at the same time. And that she can return to her profession just as quickly without being stamped as a “raven mother”. You can combine both perfectly if you have support, have structured well and built up a good network at home.

How does your life affect your life as a mother?

Petridou: Yes, I’m careful. I don’t show my child in public because I want to protect it. I don’t want my private life to be worn out – I am in public, this is my job, but not my husband or child. That’s why I pay great attention to where I am with my child. Sometimes it becomes difficult when strangers come and ask: “What’s your child?” or “how old is it?” It is difficult for me to answer because I often find it attacking. Otherwise you don’t do this with strangers of people who are not in public – at least I think so. In such moments, I sometimes find it inappropriate. And then I like to say a different name.
