Sofia Coppola dedicated a documentary to her close friend Marc Jacobs. The two have now presented the film “Marc by Sofia” in Venice.

Sofia Coppola (54), together with Marc Jacobs (62), showed up at the premiere of “Marc by Sofia” at the Venice Film Festival. The filmmaker and the designer posed on the red carpet arm in arm for the photographers on Tuesday. Coppola wore an elegant robe with a black flower pattern, Jacobs rely on a complete look in black and combined a black loop in the hair, ballerinas and a striking nail design.

Friends have been friends for 30 years

Coppola celebrates her debut as a documentary filmmaker with “Marc by Sofia”. “When I was asked to make a film about Marc, I thought: ‘No, I can’t. That is too much pressure,'” said Coppola of the press in Venice. “The film should be good because he is my friend and I love him.” But she found fun of the idea to “look through all the archives. We have been friends for 30 years, and it would be fun to look at his incredible work with which I grew up again.” Jacobs were very easy to “promise Sofia,” he said himself. “I was enthusiastic about her attitude and approach to a documentary that was not conventional. It was much more organic and more natural.”

Jacobs also speaks openly about personal ones in the documentary. “I decided to talk about things very honestly and openly about things that other people are ashamed,” he said. It is good for him “not to be ashamed, and the only way to achieve it is to be open and honest”.

Coppola’s father Francis Ford Coppola (86) was also in Venice a few days ago. At the beginning of the International Film Festival Werner Herzog (82) he presented the Golden Lion for his life’s work. “You have to celebrate the fact that someone like him can exist,” the “the godfather” director began his speech about Herzog to add that all works by the German director were “unique, very different and great”. Venice’s International Film Festival runs until September 6th.
