Charlie Sheen turns 60. The actor was known for a long time for his scandals, today he focuses on family and new projects.
On September 3, Charlie Sheen celebrates his 60th birthday. The son of show -ending Martin Sheen (85) was famous with films such as “Platoon” and “Wall Street” before he got into one of the best paid series stars Hollywoods in the sitcom “Two and a Half Men”. However, excesses and scandals overshadowed his career. Today Sheen looks back on turbulent decades – and tries to realign his life between family, health and professional projects.
His career started early
Charlie Sheen was born on September 3, 1965 in New York as Carlos Irwin Estévez. He took over his artist name from his father, actor Martin Sheen, who is called Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez. Sheen has three siblings: Emilio (63), Ramon (62) and Renée Estévez (58). You are also active in the acting industry.
Sheen had his first small supporting role in the film “Badlands” at the age of eight, in which his father took over the leading role. His official acting debut followed a year later – also alongside his father. In 1974 the two stood in front of the camera for the television film “The Execution of Private Slovik” – the first of several joint projects.
Sheen, on the other hand, was hardly enthusiastic about the school: because of poor grades and numerous absenteeism, he was expelled in 1983, shortly before the final exams. He only caught up with his school leaving certificate 30 years later – at exactly this school. “It was a youth sin that always bothered me,” Sheen later told the “TMZ” celebrity.
Sheen’s first public crash
Sheen’s acting career, on the other hand, picked up speed early on, in 1986 he played a major role in “Platoon”. The anti -war film by Oliver Stone (78) won four Oscars and was nominated for four more – and Sheen became a star overnight. In the next few years, further successful appearances in films such as “Wall Street” and “Hot Shots!”
But the dark sides also came with the success. From the 1990s, Sheen increasingly drew attention to himself with negative headlines around drugs and alcohol. In May 1998 he suffered a stroke after an overdose of cocaine and had to be taken to the hospital.
Charlie Sheen and the women
Despite all the scandals, Charlie Sheen had a great attraction for women. Three marriages and five children emerged from his turbulent love life. But many of his relationships broke up with his excessive lifestyle, drug problems and also allegations of violence.
At the age of 19 he and his high school friend Paula Profit became the father of a daughter named Cassandra (40). In 1990 he got rid of Kelly Preston (1962-2020). However, the relationship ended abruptly after he accidentally shot her in her arm. Five years later he married Donna Peele, but the marriage only lasted five months.
From 2002 to 2006 sheen was married to actress Denise Richards (54), with whom he received the daughters Sami (21) and Lola (20). In 2008 the third marriage followed with Brooke Mueller (48), with which he had the twin sons Max and Bob (both 16) born in 2009. This marriage also failed, in 2011 the divorce was carried out. Sheen had already caused a sensation with excessive affairs and unusual relationship models, for example when he lived in a triangle relationship with a porn actress and a model. In 2014 he finally got rid of porn actress Brett Rossi (36), but the wedding was canceled. Since then it has been quiet about Sheen’s love life.
Success with “Two and a Half Men”
In the meantime, he also showed his “Bad Boy” image professionally: from 2003 he played the female hero Charlie Harper for eight years in the CBS sitcom “Two and a Half Men”. The role of the Womanizer brought him four Emmy nominations and two golden globe nominations. At that time, Sheen is said to have earned around $ 825,000 at the time – even 1.25 million in season eighth. He became the best paid American series star.
But even during this time, Sheen kept making negative headlines with his private life. He reached his low point in 2011 when he publicly insulted the “Two and a Half Men” series maker Chuck Lorre (72) during his third withdrawal cure in just twelve months. In his place, Ashton Kutcher (47) got the main role. The series ran until 2015.
Charlie Sheen is HIV-positive
Despite the setback at “Two and a Half Men”, Sheen received the main role in the “Anger Management” series in 2012, which was stopped after two seasons. Afterwards his private life came to the fore again: In November 2015, Sheen, who claimed to have slept with more than 5,000 women, made public that he has been HIV positive for around four years. Before that, only close confidants and his ex-partners knew about the diagnosis.
According to Sheen, sheen dared to take the step to the public because he was increasingly put under pressure and blackmailed. Sheen first received a lot of encouragement and support. But soon the lawsuits from women followed that the information that he knew nothing of his HIV infection-including his ex-fiancé Brett Rossi.
Actor turns his life around
In the following years, Sheen participated in a clinical study with a new drug that successfully lowered his virus load.
The serial star is said to have switched off alcohol and drugs. Shen described the crucial moment in 2017 in 2023: “In one morning I forgot that I had promised my daughter to go to an appointment and I already had a few drinks Intus. So my friend Tony had to bring us down. That broke my heart because I knew exactly that she was wondering why I wasn’t going.
After a few smaller projects, it remained a long time – until a few years ago he surprisingly reconciled with series maker Chuck Lorre. Lorre himself spoke of a “healing” step. Sheen was finally back in front of the camera for his “Bookie” series. Today, however, his focus seems to be mainly on his family. “Now I wake up early, around 4:30 or 5 a.m., inform me about the news early, train, answer emails. Then I wake the children and help them with their morning routine – if you can call it routine,” the actor told People. His autobiography “The Book of Sheen” and a Netflix documentary, which reflects his life, will soon be published.
