Sex, drugs, millions: Hardly a Hollywood star has exempted excessive life as Charlie Sheen. For his 60th, a documentary devotes himself to the actor’s escapades.

He only turns 60 this Wednesday – actually far from the time when you would have to look back as a successful actor. But if you are called Charlie Sheen, the large TV documentary over the ups and depths of life seems more than appropriate. “Aka Charlie Sheen” is the name of the show that appears in Netflix about the man in September, who lived the “sex, drugs and rock’n’roll” like no other – and only replaced music with even more drugs.

“I have lit the fuss, you know, and my life became everything that it shouldn’t be,” says Sheen in the trailer of the eagerly awaited feature, in which even his drug dealer has their say. After 60 years there is really enough to tell about the man who at the same time became the most expensive TV star in the world and permanent scandalist in every boulevard leaf worldwide.

Breakthrough with “Platoon”

It all started very innocent: Charlie Sheen was born on September 3, 1965 as Carlos Irwin Estévez in New York City. He is the son of actor Martin Sheen, who is actually called Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez and comes from a Spanish family of immigrants. After a Catholic bishop, the father had bought the artist name Martin Sheen – and Carlos took the name as Charlie Sheen. Already as a teenager he started acting.

Sheen celebrated success in Hollywood early. Before he was allowed to drink alcohol in the USA, he played the leading role in the multi -award -winning Vietnam drama “Platoon” by Oliver Stone. This was followed by films such as “The Red Flood”, “Young Guns” – where he played with his brother Emilio Estevez – as well as the cult classic “Ferris makes blue”. Sheen is particularly remembered in “Wall Street”, where he shone alongside Michael Douglas and his father Martin Sheen. Many consider this role to be the strongest to this day.

Change to television

His career experienced a new high flight with the change to television. In sitcoms like “Chaos City” and especially in “Two and a Half Men”, Sheen became the best paid TV actor in the world and received up to $ 1.8 million per episode. He often played figures that were not unlike his real life: charming, drinking -loving female heroes named Charlie. According to publicly held cuffs with producer Chuck Lorre, however, he lost the leading role at “Two and a Half Men”, but was able to build on earlier success with the “Anger Management” series.

Sheen’s private life was always shaped by escapades. He was married several times, among other things with the actress Denise Richards, with whom he has the twins Bob and Max. After the separation, he lost the custody for the children.

Sheen also made headlines with other women, for example through a burst engagement with a porn actress in Hawaii. His public appearances were often accompanied by alcohol, parties and provocative statements.

Charlie Sheen lost in scandals and conspiracy theories

In addition to his professional successes and crashes, Sheen repeatedly caused trouble with political statements: for example, he claimed that the collapse of the World Trade Center in 2001 was a “controlled explosion” due to an Islamist terrorist attack. On the other hand, he showed himself generously – for example, when he transferred the fellow actor Lindsay Lohan once $ 100,000 to pay tax debts.

In 2015, Sheen announced that he has been HIV positive for several years. This caused a sudden increase in internet searches for the virus, the correct use of condoms and after buying HIV tests-today called “Charlie Sheen effect”.

But at the age of 60, the constantly drunk Rüpel seems to have got his demons under control. According to his own information, it has been dry since 2017 and no longer takes drugs. His father Martin Sheen only said a few years ago: “His recovery and life are a miracle and he is an extraordinary man.”
