Shakespeare with pop heart: The musical with songs from Rosenstolz can soon be seen from Cologne to Munich. It should be moving for fans of the former duo – because singer Anna R. is unforgettable.
Shakespeare meets Rosenstolz: The musical “Romeo & Julia – Love is everything” will soon be seen in several German cities. A tour is planned to start in Cologne in August 2026.
After that, guest performances in Düsseldorf, Munich, Duisburg, Baden-Baden, Bremen and Frankfurt are planned. Production should also be seen in Austria (Vienna) and Switzerland (Zurich).
This was announced by the heads behind the musical, Rosenstolz musician Peter Plate and composer Ulf Leo Sommer, at an event in Cologne.
The production, which is currently still visible in Berlin at the West Theater, is a new version of the tragedy by William Shakespeare (1564-1616). However, the musical makers claim that they tell the perhaps the most famous love story in the world as “never told”.
The text comes from the German translation of August Schlegel (1767-1845), but musically work the platform and summer with an interplay of pop songs and arias. The work of the Pop duo Rosenstolz, to which the plate once belonged, plays a major role. In the middle of it the well-known Rosenstolz-Hit “Love is everything” sounds. For example, “how far is over” can also be heard, also valued among fans.
“We had the chance to be a teenager again when writing this musical because we were allowed to put ourselves in Romeo and Julia. And that is a privilege. That would otherwise be difficult to create at our age,” said Plate from the German press agency on motivation to touch the fabric that is often played again.
In addition, it was fun to put the material off, said Plate. Julia should be wilder – and the character Mercutio, a friend of Romeo, is now in love with him. “” Romeo & Julia “, that is – if you see it very big – the topics of love, sex and death,” said Ulf Leo Sommer. “And these have always been the favorite topics of me and Peter.”
Plate and summer have already brought several musicals to the stage together – for example “Ku’damm 56”, an implementation of the television series. In Berlin “Romeo & Julia – Love is everything” celebrated its premiere in March 2023. So far, more than 400,000 spectators have looked at the information. It should be seen there until the end of February 2026.
Music, memory, emotion
Above all, a large audience is known because he was part of Rosenstolz (“Give me sun”). The other half of the duo was singer Anna R., who died in her apartment in March. Fans took this as an opportunity to come together at a presentation of “Romeo & Julia – Love is everything” and to remember the singer. At the theater of the West, which the musical recovered into its program, a memorial was created.
“Of course, I would be happy if the spectators who liked the rose stick think of Anna when” Love is everything “and” how far is over “, said Plate about the upcoming tour. “That would be nice and great.”
