How can fashion strengthen self -confidence?

When makes fashion happy, when unsafe – a survey brings surprising results. Designer Steffen Schraut explains the background.

An outfit changes more than just the reflection: it shows how we feel. But how much can fashion strengthen women’s self -confidence? A representative Bonsai survey on behalf of QVC and Steffen Schraut (55) shows how much potential for happiness is in clothing – and when it makes it rather insecure. In the interview, the designer classifies the results.

Mr. Schraut, what role does fashion basically play for personal self -confidence?

Steffen Schraut: Fashion can be a large source of strength, and that in every phase of life. On the one hand, it helps us to express feelings, to be seen and connect us to people. On the other hand, it gives us security when everyday life challenges us. In the best case, she makes happy. According to the survey, more than every second woman feels real happiness and self -confidence if she has a particularly beautiful outfit in her view.

How do you explain this effect?

Schraut: I would like to do the American fashion psychologist Dr. Dawnn Karen cited that advised us on the evaluation of the survey. It describes fashion as a kind of psychological tools. Consistent and ambitious actively promotes mental well -being and expands personal ability to act. In other words, if we choose our outfit, we will win new energy that we can use elsewhere. A clever investment in ourselves.

What tips do you have for people who feel insecure and want to become more confident through clothing?

Schraut: Don’t want too much at once and don’t go the second step before the first one! The most important task is to become clear about your own strengths and values in advance. What do I stand for? What do I need and what not? On this basis, you can then dress up to the personality without running after every trend.

Are there certain items of clothing or looks that automatically give more strength and presence?

Schraut: clarity convinced. Therefore, I always advise high -quality Signature Basics. The perfect jeans is the ultimate power piece: 58 percent of women feel the strongest – across all age groups. Every third swears by the white blouse or a well-cut t-shirt. In my view, a well -fitting blazer also belongs in every wardrobe.

Why is jeans such a classic when it comes to self -confidence – and what tips do you have to find the ideal model?

Schraut: The jeans are a loyal partner. She has already accompanied us through so many fashionable decades and never disappointed us: reliable and at the same time changeable. From ultra -wide to Skinny there is now a wide range for every body shape. The most important thing: it has to be casual and comfortable.

What role colors play when it comes to charisma and self -confidence?

Schrau: colors look like a emotional amplifier. In my current autumn winter collection, I consciously use it again. Limette and Fuchsia are the key colors here. But not every woman feels comfortable with striking patterns and colors, especially in younger years. Every fourth of the age of 30 prefers to be bright looks. The older ones are only 15 percent – a question of life experience.

What mistakes in styling do people take the most self -confidence – and how can you avoid them?

Schraut: To overload yourself with trends, can look indiscriminately. I would always advise to maintain the core style and use supposed IT-Pieces sparingly. Many also use clothing that they find practically above all. This is understandable: what is input has an inhibitory effect. The majority of the women surveyed prefer to leave too broken or disadvantageous clothing. I advise you to pay attention to fit and materials: clothing can be comfortable and elegant at the same time.

The survey shows that the toughest fashion criticism does not come from the net, but from the vicinity. How can you learn to deal with such comments more relaxed?

Schraut: By knowing what you stand for and where the priorities are. Also to alleviate with others works against too strong criticism. There is a great desire for solidarity in Generation Z: 63 percent of 18- to 30-year-olds, women should inspire each other with their outfits instead of competing. They also want more visible support on social media. The motto of my fashion campaign is deliberately “strong together”. Corporation instead of mutual devaluation is more important than ever.

Schraut: The game with fashionable trends is exciting and attractive, no question. Anyone who has found their own style can specifically set accents. But you shouldn’t stress yourself too much or even bend it. I am a big fan of favorite pieces that accompany us throughout life and create memories.
