Giorgio Armani revolutionized the fashion world
Giorgio Armani has revolutionized the fashion world in over 50 years. The Italian, born in Piacenza in 1934, initially started studying medicine at the University of Milan. After only three years he left the university and served in the military until he finally gained a foot in Milan in the fashion industry – initially as a shop window decorator.
He then worked at Nino Cerruti, among others, before founding the Label Giorgio Armani Spa in 1975 together with his life and business partner Sergio Galeotti. Already his first collection in spring/summer 1976 under the name “Armani Borgonuovo 21” – named after the address of his studio – was a great success. His light, unstructured women’s jackets, which were inspired by men’s clothing, were particularly popular.
Armani is considered the inventor of the “Deconstructed Look” – his deconstructs suits that have dispensed with excessive upholstery and bribed through purism. He fundamentally changed the image of the well -dressed man and elegantly transferred this style to women’s fashion. His minimalist-elegant style and androgynous silhouettes made it a symbol of modern sophistication and the most popular fashion brand on red carpets.
As one of the few star designers, Armani remained independent and, as the sole owner, kept control of his brand world, which includes clothing, accessories, perfumes, hotels, restaurants and interior. His company expanded with sublines such as Emporio Armani, Armani Jeans, Armani Privé (Couture) and Armani Exchange.
