Shortly before “Schlag den Star”, Diego Pooth talks about his passion for technology, the support of his family and new opportunities.
For Diego Pooth (21), one appointment is currently lined up with the next. A few days before the “Schlag” edition awaited in excitement, in which he will compete together with his mother Verona Pooth (57) against Natascha (61) and Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht (35), he also stopped by at a launch of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Nubia a day before the international radio exhibition IFA in Berlin.
“Basically, I was enthusiastic about technology in every way,” explains the 21-year-old when presenting the new smartphone model “Nubia Air”. In addition to Product Management, the celebrity sprout also studies software engineering and thus deals with IT issues and computer programs every day. He was not a technology nerd, “but I would definitely call myself a very technology-savvy”. With a cell phone, he mainly pays attention to performance and the camera.
“Physical distance often not really noticeable”
Under no circumstances could he do without his smartphone and laptop in everyday life and certainly not on WhatsApp. After all, his family now lives in Dubai. Diego Pooth is used to being separated from his loved ones. As a teenager, he lived in the USA for a long time. “Because we still have so much contact and are very close, the physical distance is often not really noticeable,” explains the 21-year-old. Even if there are of course moments, “in which you are particularly missing your loved ones and would like to see personally, for example on public holidays or birthdays”.
“Despite any circumstances, we manage to see ourselves very regularly, be it in Düsseldorf, also with my grandma, or when my family visits me in Berlin or I in the future in Dubai.” The next reunion with his family is imminent. Both Papa Franjo Pooth (56) and brother Rocco (14) will support him and his mother in “Schlag den Star” in the audience.
He could hardly assess the chance of winning against the Ochsenknechts. “What I know is that my mother and I are a very good team. We’ll see if it is enough. I don’t put any pressure on it and I am just looking forward to the challenge.”
Can he soon be seen on TV with his girlfriend?
His girlfriend Louisa Büscher will also be happy with him. The 23-year-old recently moved near Berlin and made her debut on the red carpet at the beginning of July. Will the two of them soon do a common thing on TV? “We have never talked about that or not to worry. She recently completed her bachelor and started a full-time position in the marketing area that she is currently focusing on,” he explains.
Diego Pooth should have plenty on the table this year after his victory at “Let’s Dance”. “When something cool comes to me, I am immediately there. Particularly sporty, adventurous challenges irritate me,” explains Diego Pooth and also reveals what important advice his mother gave him on his way to the entertainment industry. “Always say ‘yes’ at first. With ‘Let’s Dance’ it worked out pretty well, which I would never have dared to do. But you really shouldn’t always make such a head, you should just do it and you should be, then everything works.”
