Boris Becker about his wife Lilian: “She is now my captain”

Boris Becker (57) re -sorted his life in prison after the time. His wife Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro (35) apparently plays the most important role. “Inside”, which will be released on September 10th, he explains: “I am not bored by myself, I get along quite well alone. Nevertheless, I know that I am stronger in a team. Who is now part of my team? The most important part is my wife, she is now my captain, so to speak.”

Monteiro probably initially suffered from the great awareness of her husband today. She tells about the time when she met Becker in the “Spiegel”: “When we met, I was just 28 years old.” She was focused on her career. “The biggest problem for me was that Boris was very famous. It was too much attention.” The Corona period gave them privacy and “the opportunity to get to know us properly”. In retrospect, she also tells of Becker’s words before the verdict: If he has to go to prison for years, she should not wait for him, but continue to live her life. “I was almost offended by his suggestion.”

In April 2022, Becker was sentenced to 30 months in prison for accusation of insolvency crimes. For around seven months of it he sat down in the prisons Wandsworth and Huntercombe.

Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro was afraid that her husband will change in prison, as she further reveals in the common “Spiegel” interview: “That he would be broken, traumatized, a different man. But I think he got out of prison better than he went in.” He is clearer, she says. “He didn’t come back like an injured person. We took the situation into our hands. We start again.”

Boris Becker and Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro live in Milan. In September 2024 they said yes in Portofino, Becker announced in July 2025 that Lilian was pregnant and that he will be a father for the fifth time.

The child is to be born in December, as Boris Becker announced in a podcast. The former tennis professional also daughter Anna Erna Ermakova (25) from an affair with Angela Ermakova, son Amadeus (15) from his marriage to Lilly Becker (49) and Noah (31) and Elias (26) with his first wife Barbara Becker (58).
