Wegscheider is undoubtedly one of the most polarizing people of domestic TV journalism. The long-time servustV director celebrated his 65th birthday on September 2 and founded his first own media company early in his career with University. In the mid -90s he had Salzburg TV in the way – at a time when private television in Austria was not yet allowed from the right.

Two -week hunger strike
As a result, there was a first spectacular campaign, which Wegscheider also made known beyond the borders of Salzburg: after the broadcaster was received 2000 terrestrial and a few days later turned off by the authorities, Wegscheider went into a two -week hunger strike. In 2001 the private television law came into force and the path was free.
In 2002 the broadcaster officially received its license and was taken over five years later by Dietrich Mateschitz ‘Red Bull Media House and reinforced it to ServusTV. Shortly afterwards, Wegscheider said goodbye to “his baby” for several years before returning as Infochef in 2014 and became director two years later.
Sports rights and rural space
With the massive investment in sports rights and a focus on the rural space, Wegscheider servustt made the country -strongest private broadcaster in the country and screwed the market share to over five percent in the previous year. Last but not least, the broadcast of the 2024 football European Championship became a markstone for the television institution.

However, Wegscheider did not leave the mere work behind the scenes, since he also steps in front of the camera for the weekly commentary “Der Wegscheider” – and thus employs the dishes. The director positioned himself as an opponent of measures and vaccination skeptics, especially in Coronapandemic. Originally, the media authority KommaUtria had recognized five violations of the objectivity requirement of the Audiovisual Media Services Act – above all in connection with the treatment of coron apandemy in the comment. The Federal Administrative Court then lifted this decision, but checked the objectivity of the entire transmitter and not of the individual programs, as the Administrative Court (VwGH) stated in June of the previous year. Therefore, the case should be checked again.
