Before Unheilig-comeback: The Count struggles with a gray beard

A singer with a bump and a band that sang in the mainstream with a Gothic touch: Unheilig was a phenomenon. Now the count returns – also visually.

The count, singer of the band Unheilig (“born to live”) returns to the stage – and struggles with one of his most famous trademark. His beard – shaved in the musician on both chin sides – has become much gray over the years.

“I have to fight with that, I have to say that,” said the singer of the German Press Agency – albeit with a laugh. “That really makes me look older”. When he shakes the beard, he actually looks “about five years younger.”

On the other hand, he is also “as fit than ever,” emphasized the count, who neither reveals his real name nor his exact age. Every other day he goes jogging – and he only eats meat once a week. “It wasn’t that easy, I come from a butcher family,” he said. There used to be meat every day. “I have now broken this cycle.”

Comeback with single, album and tour

The musician and his formation are unhealing for exhausting months because the comeback machine is rolling. The first new single “Beautiful” will be released on Friday (September 12th), and on March 13, 2026, an album entitled “Dear Faith Monster”. And an arena tour is planned in autumn 2026. The first public appearance is scheduled for Friday – at the awarding of the golden hen in Leipzig.

In 2014, the musician from Aachen had actually said goodbye to his fans and said afterwards that he could rule out a “resignation from resignation”. In 2016 there was the supposedly last concert.

Before that, unholy had put a rather unusual career. A mainstream project became a gothic band from the subculture. The count, who also exuded a residual scary with a black bunnock and angular beard, sang with Helene Fischer at some point. When the ZDF show “Wetten, dass ..?” The count sang a song with Markus Lanz 2014.

Moment in the emergency room

Why now the comeback? According to the singer, the trigger for the change of heart was a stay in the emergency room at the beginning of the year. His doctor was concerned that he could have had a “quiet heart attack”. “I was sitting alone in this room and thought: Old Swede, when I come out here again, I’ll really think about making music again,” said the count. Fortunately, it turned out that it was not a heart attack. “Now I have to take a tablet. Everything is good,” said the count.

“Of course I know what some people will say. For example, that I will come back because I don’t have any more coal. Or that it was clear anyway that I would come back,” said the count. But it is not like that. In his break, he simply realized that time was finally. “At some point you can no longer fulfill certain dreams and certain wishes. For example, to be on stage again.”

Camping life with a star effect

In his break, he was camping, among other things. The artificial figure he had created was not offset. “At a campsite somewhere in Spain, for example, I was building up. As you know it: Turn out the awning out, build chairs,” he told the dpa. “Then the camper suddenly came from next door and first said to me:” Ey, you make music, right? “Another spoke to me at a campsite when I was flushing dishes. I stood there with my bucket and swimming trunks, and someone asked myself:” Are you not this type of unholy? “It was bizarre.”
