Colin Firth is 65 years old. From the romantic, he has at least converted to the quick -witted agent on the canvas.
One day after Hugh Grant’s 65th birthday, another British star follows up. Because Colin Firth also found 65 candles on his cake on September 10th. With the similarities between the two, it is far from over. After all, they were already balancing around the same woman, and for decades there were all producers of romantic strips for decades and ultimately vehemently broke their reputation as “Mister Romcom”. In some important points, however, the two men differ significantly.
The double Darcy and actual love
In the BBC television adaptation “pride and prejudice” from 1995, Firth slipped into the role of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and conquered countless hearts. The six -part film adaptation is based on Jane Austen’s novel of the same name and ensured high ratings in Great Britain and the USA. Firth not only gave the role of nomination at the BAFTA TV Awards as the best actor and worldwide awareness. As Mr. Darcy, he should shape another film series.
The British author Helen Fielding (67) was a big fan of the TV adaptation too “pride and prejudice”. Her book “Bridget Jones – Chocolate for Breakfast” is very loose on the plot of “pride and prejudice”. One of the male main characters, Mark Darcy, was created based on Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy and was described in the role like Colin Firth. In 2001 Bridget Jones’ story came to the cinema – with Colin Firth as Mark Darcy, Renée Zellweger (56) as Bridget Jones and Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver. In all of the three sequels, Firth slipped into the role again – especially in the 2025 “Bridget Jones – crazy for him” in a short but wonderful scene.
In 2003 he cemented his reputation as a lovable and soulful dream man in the episode film “Actually … love”, in which he embodied the heavily ranked writer Jamie. After all, he learned in a hint of “Love at first glance”. How romantic!
His Oscar era
But it doesn’t always have to spark between man and woman. In 2008, for example, Firths figure put in “Mamma Mia!” For example, to stand on men. A year later, in the directorial debut of the fashion designer Tom Ford (64) called “A Single Man”, he played a homosexual literature professor George Falconer. The sensitive, melancholic role earned him the first Oscar and Golden Globe nomination of his career, but in both cases he had (still) left behind.
Because a short time later the time had come: in “The King’s Speech – the speech of the king” shone as a stuttering prince Albert, who was in 1936 to King Georg VI. was crowned by Great Britain. For the actor it was the performance par excellence and still the highlight of his career. Prices hailed from the well -deserved first Oscar of his career to the Golden Globe.
Hugh Grant has been able to show a globe since 1995 and thanks to “four weddings and a death”. However, he was not even nominated for a gold boy. Another award that Firth has ahead in the internal dog blick competition: In contrast to Grant, the mime has been able to call itself “Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire” (CBE) since 2011.
In the latter difference, the very contrary lifestyle of the two stars should also have played a central role. Grant is considered a charming, but sometimes an upset and complicated contemporary with all kinds of scandals. Firth, on the other hand, spent 65 years on earth completely free of Eklats. The biggest excitement was that in 2019 his marriage to Livia Giggioli broke after around 22 years. One could say: Firth is the real dream of all mothers -in -law, while Grant knew how to play this over the years very convincingly on the screen.
Away from the Darling image
Whether played or real: Both men recently tried to roles at the most atypical. Grant as a greasy gossip reporter in “The Gentlemen” or serial killer in “Heretic”, Firth thanks to the “Kingsman” series as an action agent – and that is convincing.
In the “Kingsman” start of 2014, he even ensured one of the most impressive (and most violent) action sequences of recent film history when he sincerely massacrated a church full of insanely, religious fanatics. BACHESS-BABLE in the direction of a particularly Bigotten lady included: “I am a Catholic whore and enjoy an out-of-marital relationship with a black Jewish doctor who makes abortions in a military clinic. I pay homage to you and I wish you a nice day.”
With “The Kingsman: The Blue Blood”, the third part of the coarse comedy is currently being planned. There is still no precise release date. According to the title, Firth and co-star Taron Egerton (35) will probably shed plenty of blue blood in it. Firth’s title as Commander of the British Empire should not be in danger.
