After 18 years, Reiner Calmund says goodbye to “Grill den Henssler”. The 76-year-old was visibly touched on his last show.
On Sunday, Vox says goodbye to one of his most loyal stars: Reiner Calmund (76) ends his time as a taste expert at “Grill den Henssler” after 18 years. The farewell show already recorded in June has visibly moved the former Bundesliga manager.
“Of course I am touched, the whole show was difficult for me,” says the 76-year-old. His balance sheet after almost two decades is impressive: 263 programs and over 1900 evaluated dishes. “My flavor nerves danced Samba on the tongue every time,” Calmund describes his culinary experiences at the cooking show.
Tears in front of running camera
The “Calli” production team had built a royal throne for its last samba, all companions celebrated the TV veteran and as a farewell gift there was a golden fork. “I knew beforehand that the tears were running with me and so it came,” he recalls. “Even at the after-show party, I cried again. It was one of the most beautiful evenings and the most beautiful show from everyone!”
Farewell to the big shows
Many fans speculated whether Reiner Calmund’s withdrawal is related to his health. In January he was collapsed during a “grill the Henssler” shoot and taken to the hospital. There the doctors diagnosed a cardiac arrhythm disorder. “That was not the reason to stop. I generally wanted to step down,” he now clarifies. In the meantime, he is “very good” again, and he monitors his health with blood pressure measurements.
Incidentally, the former football official does not want to withdraw completely from the show business. “I will make even smaller appearances, especially in football – but no more big shows,” he announces.
After the “Grill the Henssler summer special” for Calmund, VOX also recognizes him with a “prominent! Special – thank you Calli!” at 11:40 p.m.
