In Beige polo, blue pants and beige -colored shoes, Sturm RTL welcomes the interview in his Cologne gym. It looks relaxed and in a good mood. He actually made himself rare in the media. “My last fight was in February (Victory in the third round against Benjamin, d.Red.) After that I deliberately withdraw a little, because the preparation is always very stressful, you don’t have so much time for the family. “And he now wants to enjoy it even more.
Sturm open: “I will be 47. I could certainly box for three to five years, also for a world championship. But it will not be too many fights, because at some point you have to draw a line. I had a great career and it was a great time. With a view of the sporty, everything went as I imagined.” From a sporting career, he will be convicted of tax evasion in 2020, and he has to go to prison. A time that he no longer wants to talk about. Rather, he wants to do it better since then.
“What happened happened. I learned from my mistakes and have developed further. That is important,” he explains. This includes, for example, that he no longer trusts people so quickly. “I have become very careful and rather distant to people. There is probably only a handful of people in my life next to my family. You have to be very careful when dealing with people.” An aspect that he also gives his children on the way. Son Mahir (16) and his daughter Nahla (10) are his pride. You can feel that when he talks about her.
Felix Sturm is planning a new box spectacle
Because giving up was never an option for him either. At the latest since his comeback in February, he has been on the boxing again, even if he no longer wants to be in the ring forever. He reveals: “We are especially in the concrete planning of an event to fall out a bit. Fights are good, but I think it takes more to attract the audience again. Basically, I like to fight very much, but as I said: too many fights are no longer.”
Does his son step in Papa’s footsteps? “He could, yes. But what? If you have a father who is very successful in sport, this is more of a burden. There are other examples that have collapsed under pressure. I want to avoid that. He should enjoy his life. But if that is his dream, then I will not take the dream.”
