Almost 15 years ago, Samuel Koch suffered a serious accident in “Wetten, dass ..?”. Now the Federal Social Court deals with the question of whether it was an accident at work.
It was a dramatic moment of the ZDF show “Wetten, dass ..?”: In 2010 the author and actor Samuel Koch crashed on a stunt on the television show. Since then it has been paraplegic. At the end of this month, the Federal Social Court (BSG) in Kassel deals whether the 37-year-old was insured as a betting candidate for the program.
As the BSG announced, Koch applied for the accident to recognize the accident as a work accident in 2020. He was therefore unsuccessful at the professional association and at the Mannheim social court and the Baden-Württemberg State Social Court. The argument: Insurance coverage as an employee or “WITH-BEFICKTUGER” vagina. Koch compiled his six-member betting team himself and organized the contribution to the competition with him. He acted as his own director.
Samuel Koch’s fall in the live broadcast
The lower courts did not see any insurance coverage in volunteering. Koch worked for an institution under public law. But his appearance in the show was mainly motivated by his own economic interest to present and become known to his skills. In contrast, Koch appealed.
In the television show “Wetten, dass ..?” Koch had bet of being able to overcome five cars that have increasing size with jumping boots in the forward salto one after the other. According to the BSG, he concluded a contributor contract without payment with the ZDF. In the live broadcast on December 4, 2010, the then 23-year-old fell over the fourth vehicle at the Salto and contracted paraplegia.
The 2nd Senate of the BSG plans to negotiate the case on September 24 (1 p.m.).
