Elena Semechin: World-class swimmer is becoming a mother for the first time

Elena Semechin (31) has achieved a lot in recent years. The German swimmer not only got three world championship titles and twice gold at the Paralympics, she also became a para athlete of the year for the second time after 2021. But her most emotional experience was able to do this on September 17th. She became a mother for the first time.

On the social media platform, the 31-year-old posted a photo that she shows with her son. “Have a look who has seen the light of day,” writes Semechin. “Yesterday I was finally allowed to hold my biggest miracle in my arms after a long and strenuous birth: my son Klaus Phillip started his life with 3,100 g and 48 cm.” She not only welcomes her “little treasure” in the world, but also shows itself “infinitely grateful and full of love”.

Semechin has also had very difficult years. Not long after the Paralympics in Tokyo in 2001, a brain tumor had been discovered. The athlete had to fight through chemotherapy after a difficult operation. She later returned with a brilliant comeback and was able to defend her Paralympics title in France in 2024.

Shortly before the operation, Semechin had married her partner Phillip. She had announced that she was expecting her first child at the end of March. “Today I would like to tell you something very personal and wonderful. It finally worked, I’m pregnant” ,. She is already looking forward to the changes in the couple. In addition, Semechin already indicated that he wanted to devote himself to competitive sports even after the birth: “At the moment I will train and work as best as possible. If everything goes without complications, I will return to the top of the world – but then with a larger #Team Semechin.”
