After Britney Spears, actress Amanda Bynes now wants to end a guardianship that has existed for years.
Singer Britney Spears (40) did it at the end of last year and freed herself from her father’s 13-year guardianship. Meanwhile, the former child star Amanda Bynes (35) has a similar fate. For a good nine years, the 35-year-old has no longer had any direct decision-making power over her life and finances. Bynes now wants to take legal action against this.
Accordingly, last Wednesday (February 23) she submitted a corresponding application to a US court. At the same time, the star from “The Amanda Show” or the film “Easy to Have” made a required declaration of her mental sanity. There will be a first hearing in this regard on March 22nd.
Mental and drug problems
Similar to Spears, Bynes’ public mental breakdown prompted her to be committed to a psychiatric facility. Shortly thereafter, in August 2013, her mother, Lynn Bynes, was installed as her guardian over personal, health, and financial decisions.
She also had problems with drugs before and after. According to the report, in 2018 she announced that she had been clean for four years. Shortly thereafter, however, a “stress-related relapse” occurred.
In recent years, however, the star seems to have turned the corner. Bynes was able to celebrate her graduation from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in 2019, and she also got engaged in the same year.
