Reese Witherspoon and her children have had bad experiences with paparazzi – even at school and on the playground.
Reese Witherspoon (49) has been one of the most sought -after Hollywood stars for many years. The actress has therefore had a lot of bad experiences with paparazzi. Now she talks about what her children had to get through.
In the 2000s the paparazzi were “everywhere”, Witherspoon recalls. Her daughter Ava (26) and her son Deacon (21), whom she had together with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe (51), were still very young at the time. Witherspoon also has a son born in 2012 with her ex-partner Jim Toth. After the divorce of Phillippe, which was already a trendy actor at the time, there was an apparently particularly drastic experience.
As if it were “a chase with the police”
At school or in the car, she and the children were jostled. “I remember how after the church in Los Angeles a guy jumped onto the motor hood of the car and pressed three people against the windows on each side, hammering against the doors. And how when my children were still small, after I was divorced, they chased over the expressways as if it were a chase with the police,” says Witherspoon. “It was terrifying.”
It was “really hard” for their children and all of this had led to anxiety. “I very much regret having lived in LA during this time,” says the actress. She knew that one could imagine that the paparazzi only take a few photos, but sometimes they and Phillippe were observed on the edge of a soccer field by 25 photographers who wanted to see whether the two got on. And all of this in front of the children.
Her children would have suffered from really great fear, purely because of external influences. “You can’t primarily protect them,” says Witherspoon. “But if [Paparazzi] On the playgrounds and the schoolyards, it feels as if the world is chaotic and there are no rules. They roared the children about their father or me that were completely inappropriate. “
Britney Spears was hunted like an animal
Reese Witherspoon can also understand what Britney Spears (43) had to go through at the time. “I saw how they hunted Britney Spears,” she says. “She had two little children and I had two little children, and I thought it was really unfair to portray her as a ‘bad girl’ and as a ‘good girl’.” At the time, Spears was also only a young mother who tried to find his way around. She was “hunted” like an animal “and what that triggers and does it with you is very traumatic”.
