Harry Styles broke the three-hour brand at the Berlin Marathon. Many other celebrities have already dared the legendary distance.
The British pop star and actor Harry Styles (31) ran on September 21, 2025 at the Berlin Marathon under the alias “Sted Sarandos”. With his so-called “Sub-3” time, Styles showed that he proves endurance not only on stage, but also on the running route. Previously, he had already run the Tokyo Marathon in March, but was still a good 25 minutes slower there.
Other stars also love around 42 kilometers
With his marathon experience as a celebrity, Styles is anything but alone: again and again Hollywood greats dare at the legendary distance. Actor Ryan Reynolds ran in New York in 2008 and collected donations for the Parkinson’s Foundation of his colleague Michael J. Fox. Ashton Kutcher faced the same challenge in 2022, cracked the four-hour mark and collected over a million US dollars for his child protection organization Thorn. Edward Norton started in 2009 with Maasai runners to draw attention to nature conservation projects – he also finished confidently.
Jennifer Connelly showed in New York in 2024 that she has a lot of stamina: After a good three and a half hours, she ranks the goal, and her participation was marked by a cancer foundation. “Game of Thrones” star Natalie Dormer completed the London Marathon several times and also ran for children’s aid organizations. Comedian Kevin Hart took part in New York in 2017, during his colleague Will Ferrell started in Boston in 2003. Katie Holmes, Pamela Anderson or musicians such as Alicia Keys and Alanis Morissette have long since had marathon medals at home-often combined with charity runs for aid projects. Actor Ethan Hawke ran in New York in 2015 to support the homeless help “The Doe Fund”.
There is more than just pure sporting ambition behind the most celebrity starts. Many stars use the approximately 42 kilometers to collect donations and use their reach for good purposes. At the same time, the marathon is a personal evidence of being able to overcome borders – whether in three hours or in over five. This creates a mix of charity, fitness and perseverance, which also makes the marathon a special stage for stars.
More celebrities in Berlin
By the way: Harry Styles was not the only known name in the starter field at the Berlin Marathon this year. The former Bundesliga professional Felix Kroos, brother of world champion Toni Kroos, also ran and needed almost four and a half hours. His colleague André Schürrle reached the goal in a little more than three hours and showed that he was still in top shape even after his career end. In addition to the pop star from England, the marathon in the capital also got a good portion of concentrated football celebrities.
