According to statements for the Empire portal, for Cervera, the 1992 film is a “legendary film”, but decided not to see her again once he joined the project, believing that “that is the best way to honor a film as a filmmaker.” He firmly affirms that, although his new version respects the original, starting from scratch also gave him the opportunity to “build a complete story, characters and themes that hold themselves.”
