On his 74th birthday this Wednesday, Heinz Hoenig gets a public love letter from his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig. “A few months ago, when you were already at home, you were not conceivable and so damn short,” writes the 40-year-old in it. The letter appears as a surprise that the actor, who fought for his life a few months ago, reads every morning.
A fight for survival
Annika Kärsten-Hoenig, self-trained nurse, did not give away her husband in the hardest hours. In her letter, she reminds you of this time: “We were faced with big decisions and familiar ourselves and our gut feeling. As always! But that meant nights when I grew up and hoped that you still breathe. Prayed that you wake up again in the morning and I do not lose you.”
The hospital marathon began in April 2024: a stent surgery, then the drama-coma, intensive care unit, a full 143 days in the clinic. There is still another, urgently needed operation on the aorta in the room.
“Papa is a hero!”
Heinz Hoenig fought. In her letter, Annika proudly writes: “But even if I cried out loud in silence, one thing always gave me courage and support: your heart. Your will. Your irrepressible strength to never give up.”
She got to know him again – “as a fighter, husband and person I love more than words could ever express”. Her two sons together Juliano, 4, Jianni, 2, and Kärsten-Hoenig’s daughter Juane, 18,-be proud of him, she continues, “Because her dad is a hero!”.
“Great progress” with Heinz Hoenig
He could breathe, run, laugh and live alone again, she writes about his progress in the letter. The tabloid over its current state of health: “Heinz is really doing very well for the circumstances. His physique has improved incredibly.” But she also adds: “To what extent an operation can take place on the Aorta, we have to have further examinations clarified.” The family still looks optimistic about the future: “At the moment we are just happy to have made such great progress to this day and enjoy the ‘new’ life as a family.”
“Happy Birthday my darling!” She closes her public love letter. how she sings her husband a birthday serenade at midnight. He lies in bed and is clearly happy.
The couple has been married since March 2019. Six years later, they renewed their marriage vow on Sylt.
