After her tragic death, Laura Dahlmeier receives a souvenir in her hometown: the previously nameless spa park is named after her.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the biathlete Laura Dahlmeier (1993-2025), who died in July, sets a permanent souvenir: the previously nameless spa park of the community will bear the name Laura-Dahlmeier-Park in the future. The local council of the Bavarian market town unanimously decided on Wednesday. The renaming took place in close coordination with Dahlmeier’s family. There will be a festive inauguration in the next few weeks.



Particularly suitable place for souvenirs

The Kurpark is particularly suitable for the memory of Dahlmeier: Here is the seat of the Skiclub Partenkirchen, its home club, in which it celebrated many successes and was regularly guests. Even before the official renaming, fans and athletes had built a spontaneous memorial in the park, consisting of a picture on a wooden stele, lantern and a stone from the home mountains with a badge.

“The fact that we are now permanently named the park, in which Laura was often celebrated and which she closely connected to her homeland, is a clear commitment to our community,” the BR quotes the mayor Elisabeth Koch. The Laura-Dahlmeier-Park should be a “place of commemoration, gratitude and inspiration” for today’s and coming generations.


Before the vote, the athlete’s town council intended with zither music and singing. The ceremonial inauguration of the park is planned in the coming weeks. In addition, the municipality will discuss the local youth sports award as a “Laura-Dahlmeier Prize” in the future in order to offer young athletes a role model and an incentive.

Laura Dahlmeier crashed in Pakistan

Laura Dahlmeier crashed at the end of July at the age of 31 while mountaineering at Leila Peak in Pakistan. According to her management, she was traveling with her rope partner when a rockfall ended tragically at a height of 5,700 meters.

The biathlete was a two -time Olympic champion, seven -time world champion and won 33 World Cup victories. In addition to her sporting successes, she was also active in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen mountain rescue guard and volunteered in missions. She has also been a biathlon expert for the ZDF since 2019.
