In April King Charles and Queen Camilla met Pope Francis – a few days before his death. Now the Royals want to visit the new head of the Catholic Church.
The British king Charles III. And Queen Camilla travel to the Vatican for the second time within a few months at the end of October. As the palace announced, the royal couple becomes a state visit to Pope Received Leo XIV. He becomes the first audience of Charles be at the new head of the Catholic Church.
The trip takes place about half a year after the British royal couple’s meeting with Leo’s predecessor Pope Francis. In April Charles and Camilla traveled to Italy on the occasion of their 20th wedding day and met Pope Francis in a private audience – a few days before his death on April 21.

According to media reports, King Charles and Queen Camilla spoke to Pope Francis for 20 minutes. The Buckingham Palast then explained how “deeply touched” the two of the “friendly words” of the Pope were on their wedding anniversary.
Charles has already met Leo XIV’s predecessors
According to the BBC, the visit now announced by the Buckingham Palace is to underline the friendly relationships between the Catholic Church and the Church of England, the head of which is the king.
Charles had previously visited the Vatican several times as the heir to the throne and hit three popes. He was in 2017 and 2019 by Francis and 2009 by Benedikt XVI. received in the Vatican. Today’s king also met John Paul II during his visit in Great Britain in 1982 and took part in the burial of the Pope in the Vatican in 2005.
