In view of his 94th birthday on Saturday, Freddy Quinn is very relaxed. He lives with his wife from “day to day”.
Schlager star Freddy Quinn celebrates his 94th birthday on September 27 – and can also imagine many more. “Who knows that? Why should it be at 100? I have not set myself a goal. Rosi and I live from day to day. We never get bored,” he emphasized.
Freddy Quinn is “just very grateful for what is”
Quinn also showed this in 2023 when he married his long-time partner Rosi Nidl-Petz at the proud age of 91. “I am very aware of which phase of life I am in. But as with so many things in my life, I think it is also very grateful for what is. And confidently looks at the next day,” he says confident in the birthday interview.
After his long and successful career, in which he gained a world fame with hits like “Boy, coming back”, he deliberately withdrawn from the public around 20 years ago. “The artist Freddy Quinn is no longer there. I’m a pensioner. I value that.” He was “away from the scene”.
He sees his career with mixed feelings. “Success caused big problems that I didn’t know before.” He had a lot of envy and was too naive himself. That is why the hardness of the show industry “very challenged” and often overwhelmed him at the beginning of his career. Some people only waited for him to end up with failure. On the other hand, he also had “countless loyal fans and wonderful companions”. That is why he does not look back on bitterly, but feel gratitude.
With the increasing age, there were once new challenges for Freddy Quinn: “Unfortunately, it is only natural that I had to say goodbye to many old friends forever.” His current friends have only entered his life in recent years. “So they got to know me as a pensioner and not in the spotlight. This is a very good foundation for honest friendship, I think.”
Don’t be afraid of death
In view of his age, he also deals with the question of what comes after death. “It is difficult for me to imagine that. But I am pretty sure that there is a force. Whether it is called God or nature – others can discuss that,” he wrote in his biography “How it really was”, which was published in May. He was very aware of this when his first wife Lilli Blessmann died, who died in 2008. “Back then I prayed because I didn’t want to accept it just that. He has hope and belief in love.
He also revealed in his book how he wants to be buried. “Perhaps a somewhat surprising addition: I don’t want to be burned. If there is something in the hereafter, I don’t want to experience it as a accompany ash.” He is not afraid of death, but he wishes: “I don’t want to suffer for long.”
So he enjoys the time with his rosi
But Freddy Quinn is still in the middle of life, even wants to move his wife to an old farm near Hamburg. The two maintain a relaxed everyday life. “We sleep for a long time, have breakfast comfortably, spend time in the garden.” The couple also enjoys occasional restaurant visits with friends. Then they treated themselves to “a delicious dinner, sometimes a goose leg, sometimes pasta, always liked with a good red wine”, as he emphasized in his biography. He also likes to spend time in his small private watch workshop.
