The ALS disease of actor Eric Dane is also a problem for his family. As his wife describes, the couple’s minor daughters in particular suffer.
At “Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (as) was diagnosed, a non-curable disease of the nervous system-and his family suffers. “We just try to get through there. It’s a hard time,” said his wife Rebecca Gayheart in an interview with the US magazine.
“We have some professional therapists who help us and we just try to have some hope and do this with dignity, grace and love.” But it is “heartbreaking,” said Gayheart. “My girls really suffer,” added the actress. “I don’t think I’m already at a point where I can pull something positive out of it. I’m not that far yet.”
Eric Dane has as: “It’s a terrible disease”
Gayheart and Dane have two daughters aged 15 and 13. The couple has been married since 2004. In 2018, Gayheart submitted divorce, but withdrew it in March 2025. “We definitely have to deal with something that we all brought together, and Eric will always be my family, regardless of whether we are married or not, or live in the same house or not,” she said to “People”. They are closer again, but they don’t like the reason for it. “It is a terrible illness and I wish there was a remedy. I hope you will find one soon, because it’s just so sad.”

Short-term cancellation for the Emmy Awards
Eric Dane announced his ALS diagnosis in April 2024, also in an interview with the magazine “People”. He emphasized how important he was the support of his loved ones. “I am grateful that I have my loving family by my side while we go through this next chapter.” In June, Dane spoke to Diane Sawyer for the program “Good Morning America” about his diagnosis and said: “I wake up every day and will be reminded immediately that it happens. It is not a dream.”
During the Emmy Awards on September 14th, the actor was supposed to celebrate at the 20th anniversary of “Grey’s Anatomy”. However, he did not appear to the event in Los Angeles, which was concerned with many fans. Shortly afterwards he published a video clip of the organization “I am” on his Instagram account, which clarifies the disease and drives research. In it he said: “There is so much more to learn more – and we have to do it now.”
