Florence Welch would almost have died after an ectopic pregnancy

Around two years ago, the British singer Florence had to undergo a life-saving emergency operation. Now she has spoken for the first time about what the reasons for it were. In an interview with the newspaper “The Guardian”, the 39-year-old revealed that the intervention was necessary due to an pregnancy.

In August 2023, what her appearances at Rock en his in Paris and at the Zurich Open-Air Festival had canceled. At the time, she informed her fans via Instagram: “For reasons that I don’t feel really strong enough, I had to undergo emergency operation. That saved my life.”

What now said that she suffered miscarriage in the early stage of her pregnancy. It was only day later that she learned that it was an ectopic pregnancy. The fertilized egg cell does not nested in the uterus, but in an fallopian tube. The fallopian tube tore and caused massive inner bleeding. After a performance at a festival in Cornwall, which suffered from severe pain, she went to the doctor. This made an ultrasound. “I had a cola can full of blood in my stomach,” she described the dramatic diagnosis. She was told that she had to be operated on within an hour. The surgeons could no longer save the fallopian tube and had to remove it.

During the ultrasound, she thought that she actually had to go – to another festival. “If I had climbed on the plane, I would have been down on a stretcher. Or worse things,” she said. When she came home from the hospital, she screamed. “I think the sound that came out of me was like that of an injured animal or something. And then it was. Ten days later I was on stage again.”
