17 large tents are at the Oktoberfest – and again 21 smaller ones. The festival halls in particular are characterized by special features. And some tent is the meeting point of the High Society.

Since the founding year 1810, the Oktoberfest – also called Wiesn – has changed significantly. What started with simple beer stalls as a culinary accompaniment for horse racing is the largest folk festival in the world today. Six breweries: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner and Spaden, vie for the guests’ favor.

Most of the beer is probably drunk in the famous marquees – often for a snack, a hendl, fish or even ox specialties. The bottom line is that the different tents offer a fairly similar program: beer, conviviality, hearty food and often live music. And yet the different holiday sites differ significantly.

For example, in Kuffler’s wine tent there is no more beer from a certain time – but wine, sparkling wine and champagne. In the hacker marquee, all guests sit in the open air-because the ceiling consists of a huge cloud painting. In addition, the dining room is framed by a 2000 square meter painting with scenes from Munich city life.

The audience is also a little different from tent to tent. Sometimes there are more families, especially on the Oidn Wiesn, a smaller festival that is supposed to remind you of earlier times, sometimes the concentrated prominence of the country gathers. For the latter, the beetle tent is particularly known – if you keep something on yourself, you can see at least once during the Oktoberfest.

Reserve the Oktoberfest tables or just go there?

Many tents offer an online reservation, some only accept an appointment on site. Interested parties will find the respective rules and table offers on the hosts’ websites. However, most tents always hold a contingent of places for guests without a reservation, an exception makes the beetle tent mentioned. If you are not registered here, you have to stay outside.

Without a reservation to spend a day in the tent, it also works: Especially if you start searching during the week and, if possible, in the morning, the chances are very good. If you then stroll through the Theresienwiese, you are even invited by the bouncers to secure one of the many free tables. The situation will change in the afternoon – and the invitations quickly become a friendly wave.

Another special feature: while you can simply spend all day long, some tents work with several slots. Then you may have to make room for new guests, although you got a table. So visitors should definitely inquire beforehand which system is used in the tent of their choice before being sent disappointed.

Numerous blogs, such as that, offer more information on how to get as stress-free as possible.
