A Mendoza is the winner of the best Italian pizza made in Argentina

The Scuola Pizzaioli Campionatothe most relevant Italian pizza contest in South America created by Scuola Pizzaioli and supported by the Consulate General of Italy in Buenos Aires, already has a new champion: Andrés Gonzalez, 34 and a native of San Rafael, Mendoza. He was crowned first in the Pizza Margherita Stg category and, adding the scores of contemporary and Roman Margherita in Teglia, led the general podium of the championship. He also stood out in Gourmet and In Pala.

The prize? A trip to Italy with the possibility of living a unique training experience in the heart of the Pizzaiola tradition, in addition to sponsors products.

The podium was completed with Miguel Sánchez, from Cuba, in the 2nd place; and Andrés Tul, from Ecuador, in the 3rd.

Andrés González opened D’Oliva Pizzas in San Rafael, Mendoza, four years ago. He debuted at the Campionato in 2023, where he obtained third place; In 2024 he competed again and was located in the top five. Finally, in this edition he reached first place.

The competition took place on September 27 and 28 in La Rural, within the framework of the FIT, with a program open to the public that included masterclass, tastings, showcookings, talks and activities for all ages. Daniel Arcucci, a leading sports journalist and biographer of Maradona, was in charge of the presentation of the event.

This year Pizzaioli from Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Chaco, Salta, Tucumán, Chubut, Neuquén, Córdoba and Santa Fe participated, together with representatives of Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Italy, Colombia, Curaurao, Uruguay and Venezuela. More than 120 competitors were measured in 13 categories that put technical test, creativity and special skills.

The main categories that defined the South American champion were Pizza Margherita Stg, contemporary and Roman Margherita in Teglia. Pizza Gourmet, in Pala, Fritta, Senza Glutine, Social Pizza, Pizza in Due and special skills such as Piú Veloce, Piú Lunga and Freestyle also stood out. For the first time, tenderness said in mind with the Mini Pizzaioli, who officially opened the category in this edition.

The jury was made up of more than thirty teachers Pizzaioli, chefs and pizzeros of international renown such as Donato de Santis, Vincenzo Capuano, Carmine Candito, Marco Carlesso and Livio Orefice, together with Argentine referents such as Pietro Sorba, Néstor Gattorna (Siamo Nel Forno) and Carola and Victoria Santoro (Ti Amo). They were also part champions of previous editions such as Santiago Cenitagoya and Bruno Liska.
