Netflix announced Monday morning One Shot with Ed Sheerana new experimental music experience directed for the streaming service by Philip Barantinithe Emmy winner behind his visually bold drama Adolescence.
This innovative, unique experience, which will arrive on Netflix on November 21will see multi-Grammy Award winner Sheeran take viewers on a fascinating journey over the course of an afternoon, in real time, as he tours the streets of New York City, performing his greatest hits, captured in a single take.
From impromptu performances on bustling sidewalks and subway cars to intimate interactions with fans and passersby, Sheeran’s journey through New York will be captured in a series of unforgettable moments, highlighting the pandemonium and emotion that follows.
The project comes from Fulwell Entertainment and Emmy-winning producer Ben Winston, who executive produced alongside Sheeran and Barantini.
The success of Adolescence on Netflix
The news of One Shot with Ed Sheeran comes after the impressive performance of Adolescence at the Emmys, where it won eight awards from 13 nominations, including Best Limited Series or Anthology. Addressing the murder of a classmate by a 13-year-old teenager and the profound impact this has on both his family and his community, the program was, of course, praised for its surprising choice of format – the same one adopted by One Shot with Ed Sheeran –, where each episode was recorded as a sequence shot, uninterrupted, in a single take, without cuts or edits to modify it.
The series featured the debutant Owen Cooper as young Jamie Miller and co-creator Stephen Graham like his father, both awarded Emmy Awards for their performances. With a huge cultural impact, the series is currently in second place on the list of most popular shows on Netflix, with 142.6 million views and counting.
Following the September release of his eighth studio album, Play, English singer-songwriter Sheeran is preparing to embark on his sixth concert tour, The Loop Tourwhich begins in Paris, France, on December 1 and will last almost a year.
