Are you more of a dachshund or labrador type? Use our interactive self-test to find out in a playful way which dog breed best suits your everyday life and lifestyle.
Anyone who has ever seen a dog waiting at the door with its tail happily wagging knows that these animals are not just pets, they quickly become an integral part of the family. Dogs can enrich life in many ways. They encourage you to get out into the fresh air regularly, thereby promoting your health and at the same time giving you unconditional affection. A dog can provide comfort, motivation and ease feelings of loneliness.
In our self-test at star you can find out which dog might suit you and your living conditions. Of course, this test can only offer a small orientation, with a wink and a little humor. It in no way replaces advice from experts at animal shelters or from reputable breeders. But it can help to give you some initial food for thought: Am I more of a sporty type who wanders through forests and fields with an energetic dog? Or do I want a cozy companion who would rather cuddle on the couch than run through the rain?

Because as great as the joy of having a four-legged companion is, there is also the other side of the coin. A dog means responsibility. Every day, for many years. Depending on their breed and size, dogs can live for ten to 15 years. This means that anyone who brings a dog into their home is choosing a long-term companion who cannot simply be “given away” when things get stressful. This not only applies to daily care, but also vacations, free time and flexibility. Anyone who likes to travel spontaneously or often travels for work needs to think early on: Who will look after my dog during this time?
The financial aspects should not be underestimated either. In addition to food, accessories and perhaps a few toys, over the years costs arise for veterinary visits, vaccinations, insurance and, depending on the breed, also for extensive grooming. Especially as they age, dogs can develop health problems that cause additional costs. You have to be aware of this responsibility before you bring a dog into your home.
Dog adoption should be carefully considered
An adoption should always be carefully considered and, ideally, in close coordination with an animal shelter or a reputable animal welfare organization. There, interested parties not only receive expert advice, but also honest assessments of which breeds and characters suit which lifestyle.
The most important thing is that you should never make the decision to get a dog lightly. A dog is a friend for life, a companion through ups and downs, a companion who often gives you more than you could ever give back. Anyone who is willing to take on this responsibility can look forward to many years of joy, adventure and affection.
And now: Have fun with the self-test! Maybe you’ll find a little clue as to which dog suits your life best. Please feel free to send the test to other dog lovers and those who want to become one.
