Taylor Swift explains why she doesn’t want to perform at the Super Bowl
Taylor Swift is one of the most successful musicians in the world, but she has not yet performed at the world-famous Super Bowl. Now she has revealed the reason why.
The Super Bowl, the finale of the NFL football league, is the largest single sporting event in the world. Around 200 million viewers tune in every year when the championship is decided in the USA. The performance of a musician during the half-time break is at least as famous. The Rolling Stones were already there, as were Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Dr. Dr. Bad Bunny will be on stage at next year’s Super Bowl, which has already caused some controversy.
Taylor Swift has often been considered a possible break act, but the music superstar has now explained on a late night show why that is not (yet) an option for her. Rumors had previously made the rounds that negotiations between Swift and the NFL over image rights had broken down. Swift vehemently denied these rumors.
Taylor Swift’s reason for rejection has a name: Travis Kelce
The reason for her rejection is different: her fiancé Travis Kelce. The 36-year-old is a player for the Kansas City Chiefs and has already won the Super Bowl three times. “Roc Nation (the halftime show host, Note d. Red.) keeps calling my management to see if I would be interested. But these are just loose conversations and not official inquiries,” Swift reported on “Jimmy Fallon.” They always have honest exchanges with Roc Nation, rap star Jay Z’s company. “And the truth is that I’m in love with a guy who plays exactly this sport on this field,” said Swift. Football is like violent chess, she’s fixated on what “her man” is doing all season the playing field.
But that doesn’t mean her fiancé wouldn’t be happy if she performed at the Super Bowl. On the contrary: “He would love it,” Swift explained. But as long as he is on the field, she simply cannot perform. “Can you imagine him risking his health on the field every week for a dangerous and intense sport? I can’t just sit there and think, ‘What choreo should I do? Two verses of ‘Shake it off’ would be great, then ‘Blank Space’ and finally ‘Cruel Summer’ would be great,” said Swift.
Without question, an appearance by Taylor Swift would be a big win for the NFL, which could tap into a new target group. But, it seems, this could only become realistic after Travis Kelce’s career ends.
