Jan Böhmermann admits that he may have planned the concert with rapper Chefket on October 7th too carelessly. How he classifies the criticism of his event.

In connection with the cancellation of a planned appearance by the rapper Chefket at the House of World Cultures (HKW) in Berlin, the satirist Jan Böhmermann admitted that the planning of the concert was too careless. “We should never have planned this event on that day, October 7th,” said Böhmermann at a discussion with Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer at the HKW. “It was unwise and the Jewish perspective should have been taken into account from the outset.” This evening was planned with too little awareness of what that meant.

Second anniversary of the terrorist attack

On October 7, 2023, terrorists from Hamas and other Islamist groups carried out a massacre in Israel in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 others were kidnapped as hostages in the Gaza Strip. The event sparked the Gaza War with tens of thousands of Palestinians killed.

The concert was canceled last week after there was criticism of Chefket’s planned appearance. Minister of State for Culture Weimer sharply criticized the planned event at the federal institution House of World Cultures. According to the accusation, the rapper is wearing a T-shirt with a motif of the desired state of Palestine without Israel in photos. According to the federal government, this motive should be viewed as anti-Semitic.
