Each one faithful to their style, the musicians fused their voices and universes in a song that travels between Buenos Aires and New York. The video clip begins with Charlie playing the piano inside a cave, cigarette in hand, while Sting tour Manhattan in a classic yellow taxi.

In parallel, García crosses the streets of Buenos Aires in an old taxi, reflecting the dual spirit of the song.: a city that never sleeps, but is also a refuge and home.

In the letter, Charlie It describes a lively, intense and contradictory city: a place where “everything can be done my way”, where loneliness coexists with freedom. The piece combines nuances of urban rock, jazz and melodic pop, with arrangements that evoke the style of both artists.

Legendary conclave: how the crossover between Charly García and Sting occurred

Charly García and Sting They met in 1988 during the world tour of Amnesty International which celebrated 40 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since then they maintained a close friendship that finally crystallized into a musical collaboration.

The idea of ​​reworking “In The City” arose during the last visit of Sting to Argentina, when his guitarist Dominic Miller of Argentine-British origin, invited Charly to his show at the Movistar Arena. There, between talks with Alejandro Lerner and other musicians, the proposal to record together was born.

Production took place months later: Miller recorded the guitars, Diego López de Arcaute took care of the battery and Charlie he made the rest of the instruments. Local shots were taken in Happy Together Music & Unísonowhile those of Sting and Miller were registered in Permanent Waves Studios. The material was mastered by Ted Jensen in Sterling Sounda renowned engineer who worked on several albums by the Argentine.

“In The City” is now available on digital platforms and will also be released as plain vinyl. The official video, directed by Belen Asadshows both artists traveling in taxis through a symbolic city that unites Buenos Aires and New York, accompanied by scenes of Miller playing on the subway.
