Nancy Meyers’ farewell to Diane Keaton
Reeves’ comments come just hours after Meyers posted his own tribute on social media. After the avalanche of reactions, she wrote on Instagram: “As a cinephile, I am with all of you: we have lost a great figure. A brilliant actress who time and again stripped naked to tell our stories. As a woman, I lost a friend of almost 40 years; sometimes, during those years, I felt like a sister to her because we shared so many truly memorable experiences.. As a filmmaker, I have lost a connection with an actress one can only dream of.”
The filmmaker also specifically referenced “Somebody’s Gotta Give” in her post, recalling, “When I needed her to cry scene after scene in ‘Somebody’s Gotta Give,’ she went all out and somehow made it fun. And I remember sometimes she would spin around in a circle before a take to purposely destabilize herself or whatever she needed to be in the moment.”
“She was fearless, never seen before, born to be a movie star, her laugh could brighten your day, and for me, meeting her and working with her changed my life,” Meyers continued. “Thank you, Di. I will miss you forever.”
