Recycling

Separate, compost and reuse: the 3 key steps of recycling
The keys to recycling, which can be done from home, are these:
1. Separate
The first step to recycle correctly is classify waste. At home it is advisable to have at least three containers: one for recyclables (such as paper, cardboard, clean plastic, glass and metals), another for organic items (food scraps, grass, peels, dried leaves) and one more for non-recyclables (dirty packaging, wipes, sanitary waste).
This allows materials that can be reused arrive in good condition to recycling centers. If the waste is mixed, much of the material is lost.
2. Compost
Home composting is an alternative to transform organic waste into natural fertilizer. It can be done with a compost bin, a closed bucket and worms. In a few months, the remains of fruits, vegetables and grass become fertile soil for pots or gardens.
In addition to halving the amount of weekly garbage, compost helps improve soils and prevent bad odors. In many parts of the country there are already free workshops and neighborhood networks that teach how to compost from home.
3. Reuse
Before throwing something away, it is worth asking yourself if it could have another function. Jars can serve as organizers, boxes as containers, and old clothes can be turned into rags or bags. These types of habits are part of the circular economywhich seeks to extend the useful life of materials and reduce waste production.
According to environmental organizations, a large part of urban waste is disposable packaging.
