This two-part documentary will offer an in-depth analysis of the creation of Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), as well as a look at the upcoming film Avatar: Fire and Ashwith behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and filmmakers.

Among the many notable figures who appear in the film are Cameron, the late producer Jon Landau and the stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Kate Winslet.
“Avatar” follows the story of the clan of Jake Sully (Worthington) and Neytiri (Saldaña) on the alien moon of Pandora. The original 2009 blockbuster and its much-delayed sequel, “The Way of Water,” grossed more than $2 billion each worldwide and are considered two of the highest-grossing films in history.
Meanwhile, Cameron is the only filmmaker with three films that have grossed more than $2 billion, the other being “Titanic.”

“I’m going to tell you a little secret,” Cameron teases in the trailer for the documentary. “While we use computers and technology, ‘Avatar’ is made by an incredibly talented team that brings every expression, every emotion and the entire world to life.”
Cameron uses motion capture to translate the actors’ performances, including their body movements and facial expressions, to the blue humanoid characters known as the Na’vi. With “The Way of Water,” the director and his collaborators managed to perfect that meticulous process for the underwater sequences. Meanwhile, the cast learned to freedive in a massive, state-of-the-art 2,700,000-liter water tank.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in theaters just before Christmas, on December 19. Meanwhile, two sequels—“Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5”— are scheduled for the 2029 and 2031 holiday season.
