Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline will publish his memoirs and excerpts are already tearing the pop princess into the mud. Now she is defending herself.

Britney Spears is no longer mouthy, as she was during her 13 years under her father’s guardianship. The 43-year-old has now taken a stand on Instagram regarding the boiling allegations from her ex-husband’s upcoming book.

Kevin Federline will release his memoir “You Thought You Knew” on October 21st. The book is apparently peppered with juicy details from his marriage to Britney Spears. The former dancer was in a relationship with the singer for around two and a half years, including two years from 2004 to 2006. The marriage resulted in two sons Sean Preston, 20 years old, and Jayden James, 19 years old, who grew up with their father.

In recent days, excerpts from the book have come to light stating that Spears once watched her sleeping children with a knife in her hand, cheated on her ex-husband with a woman and that he was worried about her condition.

The singer now counters with clear words on Instagram: “The constant gaslighting from my ex-husband is incredibly hurtful and grueling,” complains Spears. “I have repeatedly asked, even screamed and pleaded, to be allowed to have a life with my sons. Relationships with teenage boys are complicated. This whole situation has left me deeply discouraged and I have repeatedly asked, almost begged, to be a part of their lives. Unfortunately, they have witnessed how little respect their own father has shown me. They must now learn to take responsibility for themselves. One of my sons has had me for the past five I’ve only seen it for 45 minutes in years, the other only saw it four times in that time.”

She continues: “I have my pride too. From now on I will tell them when I’m available – not the other way around. Believe me, these little, trivial lies in this book – they make money for others, but they only cause me pain. I’m the only one who really suffers from it. I will always love my sons, but anyone who really knows me knows not to pay attention to the gossip about my mental health or my drinking habits. I am one quite intelligent woman who has tried to live a retired and dignified life for the past five years. I’m talking about this because I’ve suffered enough – and any real woman would do the same in my position.”

When the alimony ended, Kevin Federline began writing

After the separation around 20 years ago, various media outlets, including “People” and “The Guardian”, reported that Britney Spears had been obliged to pay $20,000 a month in maintenance; in 2018, the amount was said to have been increased to around $40,000. In California, these payments typically continue until the children turn 18. Since Sean Preston turned 18 in September 2023 and Jayden James in September 2024, Spears no longer has to pay child support. This also ended the legal obligation to support Federline financially – a topic that was repeatedly brought up in the media because Spears was considered the main breadwinner of her family for years during the guardianship.

Just as alimony ended, Kevin Federline announced his memoir. He describes the book as “honest and transparent” and claims he wants to tell his version of their shared story – especially for his children.
