Herbert Grönemeyer doesn’t like looking at himself in the mirror

Herbert Grönemeyer likes to show off his outfits on social media. But at home the singer tends to avoid the mirror. That’s what lies behind it.

According to his own words, singer Herbert Grönemeyer (69) is not a big fan of his reflection. He doesn’t have a mirror over his sink at home, just on the side, said Grönemeyer, who has now released his second unplugged album “Unplugged 2 – Von alles anders”. “I always have to go there when I want to look.”

The artist, who grew up in Bochum, also said: “I’m happy when I have to look at myself as little as possible. If I have to, then it’s best to wear make-up and dress sensibly.” Grönemeyer occasionally posts videos on the Tiktok and Instagram platforms in which he presents his outfit.

Why Herbert Grönemeyer likes to wear eye-catching glasses

For him, these “outfit checks” are a form of “happy fooling around,” he said. “But I don’t look at the comments under these videos. I don’t really like looking at myself either, unless I do these outfit checks, that’s okay. Otherwise, I don’t tend to look in a mirror all the time.”

In general, fashion has always been important to him; he chooses his outfits himself. This always includes stylish, eye-catching glasses, said Grönemeyer. “The glasses distract from my aging face and that’s important. They have to create pressure. They should also be vibrant in terms of color. I think it all belongs together. I always dressed differently back in the hippie era, when people always asked: “Where do you actually shop?”

In 1995, the singer released his first unplugged record. Now – 30 years later – he has released his second such album. On “Unplugged 2 – From Everything Different” you can hear songs that were released after 1995, including Grönemeyer’s probably best-known song “Mensch” and “Der Weg”.
