Peter Farrelly, the comedy director who won an Oscar for “The Green Book,” is directing the Amazon MGM feature.
Amazon MGM revealed the first look at Anthony Ippolito like a young man Sylvester Stallone in I Play Rockya true story about the tumultuous making of the 1976 boxing classic Rocky.

“The film tells the true story of Sylvester Stallone and his unwavering belief that he was not only meant to write Rocky, but he was meant to be Rocky Balboa,” the Instagram caption reads.

The filmmaker of The Green Book, Peter Farrellydirects I Play Rocky, currently in production. Ippolito will star alongside Stephen James as Carl Weathers, who played Rocky’s fierce rival Apollo Creed, as well as Anna Sophia Robb, Matt Dillon, PJ Byrne, Tracy Letts and Jay Duplass.
Rocky’s success in the cinema
The Rocky films, distributed by United Artists and later MGM, are one of the most iconic and successful sports film franchises of all time, with global grosses of more than $1.7 billion, including the Creed spin-off films. Stallone created and starred in the filmsand the story of his struggle to act in the 1976 film, which won the Oscar for best picture, is now part of Hollywood history.
Ippolito played Oscar-winning actor Pacino in the Paramount+ limited series The Offerwhich told the story about the making of another ’70s film classic, The Godfather.
He also co-starred in the Netflix romantic drama Purple Heartsplayed a younger version of the character Adam Sanders in Pixels and appeared in Not Fade Away by David Chase.
