An Argentine startup launched a system that connects neighbors with urban collectors and digitizes the entire recycling process.
Pollution is a problem that has intensified in recent years, which is why more and more projects seek solutions for confront the waste problem urban. A new application promises to change the way recyclable materials are recovered in the City of Buenos Aires.
The initiative allows users to request from their cell phone that a collector comes to get your bags of plastic, glass, cardboard or metal, ensuring that these materials return to the production chain instead of ending up buried.

Reaquila: the startup that wants to revolutionize recycling
Reaquila is a climatech argentina that seeks to digitize the entire recycling circuit and improve the working conditions of cardboard collectors. The project uses technology, traceability and decent work to foster a transparent system from the moment the material is removed until its final sale.
Through a free appany person, business or company can publish the recyclable waste they have available. In a few minutes, you receive confirmation from a collector who will pick them up, in the same way that you request a trip in transportation or delivery applications.
The objective is reduce the amount of recyclables that end up in green bins and guarantee that they are effectively recovered by those who make a living from that activity.
How does the app work?
The platform of Reaquila It works with a similar logic to travel apps. The user chooses the type of material and quantity, and a nearby picker accepts the order. The entire process is digitally recorded, with information about the route, the type of waste and its final destination.
The application includes a digital wallet and one associated Mastercard cardwhere payments and benefits are accredited for those who participate in the system.
During the pilot test in Buenos Aires, Reaquila will work with 150 cartoneros distributed by areas, replicating the expansion model of other urban platforms. There will be three plans available:
- Essential: With two monthly collections.
- Familiar: With four visits a month.
- On demand: For urgent orders.
Each collection will have an approximate value of $2,000and almost all of that amount will go directly to the collector. According to company estimates, a worker could triple your monthly incomecombining the service fee, the sale of the material and the interests generated in the digital wallet.
The company says that the system seeks to reactivate the recycling chain, ensure volume of work and promote financial inclusion.
