Gérard Depardieu holds Russian citizenship. He is now calling for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Gérard Depardieu (73) has Russian citizenship and is considered a Putin friend. In a statement, the French actor is now calling for negotiations in the war in Ukraine.
According to Depardieu, Russia and Ukraine have always been brother countries, the statement to the French news agency AFP said. He calls for the guns to rest and to negotiate. The actor also comments on the social media platform, on which he has only been present for a few weeks: “Peace”.
Depardieu was banned from entering the country
In the summer of 2015, Ukraine imposed a five-year entry ban on Depardieu, who has held Russian citizenship since 2013. A spokeswoman for the National Security Service confirmed this at the time. “I love Russia and Ukraine, which is part of Russia,” Depardieu is said to have said before, according to media reports. The actor had apparently not denied that at the time. He is considered a friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin (69). The latter had personally offered him citizenship.
