Kim Kardashian talks about her failed marriage to Kanye West and her guilty conscience after the breakup. Above all, she wants to protect their four children.
Kim Kardashian, 45, is very open again in the new season of her reality show and lets viewers take a look into her inner life. For the first time, she speaks very clearly about the psychological stress of her marriage to Kanye West, 48, and the aftereffects of the divorce. While she’s on the set of the Ryan Murphy series “All’s Fair” between two shoots, she reveals some experiences and feelings.
“I haven’t had psoriasis since I got divorced, and now it’s starting again,” Kardashian says in the season 7 premiere episode of The Kardashians. “I have psoriasis again,” she emphasizes, illustrating her current stress level.
For Kim Kardashian, protecting children is her top priority
In a one-on-one interview, Kardashian is asked what goes through her mind when she sees her ex-husband’s sometimes erratic behavior, such as the one he recently used to defend Sean “Diddy” Combs. Her answer is clear: “My poor children.” Everyone else could handle it, but she had to protect her babies. The mother of four has children North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6, with West.
Recently, one of the children found out about certain behavior from their father, says Kardashian. “They’ll experience things. They’ll grow up, they’ll see it,” she says. As a mother, it is her job to protect the children – especially in the moments when their father behaves like this. The reality of having four children together is complex and cannot simply be ignored.
The Stockholm Syndrome and years of responsibility
When looking back at their seven-year marriage, which began in 2014 and ended in 2021, Kardashian is particularly clear. “I always had the feeling that I had a bit of Stockholm syndrome,” she admits about the immediate period after the separation. She always felt bad, always protected West and wanted to help him. Thoughts like “I should have held on” or “I could have helped” would have haunted her. About the current state of her relationship with her ex-husband, she only says: “It’s so damn sad.”
She doesn’t have the “luxury of simply walking away and never having to do with him again.” That is not their reality. “We have four children together,” she clarifies. The rumors that she is deliberately keeping the children away from their father do not correspond to reality: “It’s a divorce – not a kidnapping.”
