It will be the first time that an episode of a Netflix series will also be shown in theaters in addition to its streaming premiere.

The two-hour finale of the series Stranger Things will be released in theaters. The climactic episode, titled “The Rightside Up”will premiere on Netflix and in more than 350 theaters on December 31 in the United States. It will be the first time that an episode of a Netflix series will also be shown in theaters.

Details about the exact theaters (and whether it will also be available in countries outside the US) will be announced at a later date, according to an announcement from Netflix.

In a recent Variety cover story about the making of the show’s final season, the creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Dufferexpressed interest in having the full-length finale premiere simultaneously in theaters when it hits the streaming service on New Year’s Eve.

“People don’t experience the time and effort that goes into sound and imaging, and they see it in reduced quality,” Matt said. “More than that, it’s about experiencing it at the same time as the fans.”

“It would be amazing”Ross said. “Because the fans could be there with other fans and experience it as a communal thing; it would be amazing.”

While one of Netflix’s founding principles has been to put its original content on its streaming platform instead of in theaters, the company has shown its feature films in theaters on a case-by-case basis. Greta Gerwig negotiated an Imax release with the company for its Narnia film next year. This year’s Netflix awards contenders, including Frankenstein, Jay Kelly and A House of Dynamitedebut first in a small number of theaters for an Oscar-qualifying run, often a few weeks before their Netflix premiere.

When will the first episodes of Stranger Things last?

Ross Duffer He revealed the length of the first four episodes of the series’ final season on his Instagram account recently.

The premiere of the fifth season, “The Crawl”will last one hour and 8 minutes; episode 2 (whose title has not yet been revealed) will be 54 minutes; episode 3, “The Turnbow Trap”will last one hour and 6 minutes; and episode 4, “Sorcerer”will last one hour and 23 minutes.

The post refutes viral social media posts that claimed each season 5 episode would be at least 90 minutes long, as well as a Puck News report from October 6 that the episodes “run between 90 minutes and two hours.”
