“Lassie” star June Lockhart dies at 100

For many years June Lockhart played little Timmy’s mother in the TV series “Lassie”. The US actress also became known for a space series. Now she has died.
The US actress June Lockhart, known from the TV series “Lassie” and “Lost Between Strange Worlds”, is dead. She died at the age of 100 in her home in Santa Monica, California, as her spokesperson team announced.
Television viewers know Lockhart primarily from the hit series “Lassie,” in which she played the gentle mother Ruth Martin of little Timmy (Jon Provost) in over 200 episodes starting in 1958. From the mid-1960s she had a leading role in the science fiction series “Lost Between Strange Worlds” as the mother of a family on a space mission.

Provost, 75, said she treated him on the set and beyond filming “with respect, love and deep affection,” said Provost, 75, when asked by the German Press Agency. “She was definitely my ‘other’ mother for the rest of my life.”
Lockhart leaves behind many friends, millions of fans, an incredible acting legacy “and sweet memories that I will cherish forever.” From the age of 7 to 14, Provost played the little blonde boy Timmy, who went on numerous adventures with the famous long-haired collie Lassie.
Lockhart was in front of the camera as a teenager
His future colleague was born in New York in 1925 as the child of the actor couple Gene and Kathleen Lockhart. As a teenager, June Lockhart starred alongside her parents in the film “A Christmas Carol” (1938). In the 1940s, supporting roles in Hollywood films followed with stars such as Bette Davis, Ingrid Bergman, Judy Garland and Gregory Peck. She won a Tony for her Broadway debut in “For Love or Money” (1947).

The band expressed their sadness on Instagram, but did not give a cause of death. “Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bassist – he was pure magic. The pulse under every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound,” were the moving words of his fellow musicians.
